DOMINIC WOLF ONLY FOR MAD PEOPLE

Since the turn of this year, we’ve been interested in Dominic Wolf, the North London-based musician who makes music from his home studio. His songs explore out-of-body states brought on by insomnia as we heard in ‘4 A.M.’ and the end of civilization in ‘Tainted Paradise’. It’s the latter idea that has come into near-reality in the video for Wolf’s latest track ‘Only For Mad People’, of the same name as his newly released EP.. The visual shows an eerily desolate London filmed by Wolf while riding his bicycle delivering food to his fellow lockdownees. Although unintentional, the current empty cityscape has become the perfect backdrop for ‘Only For Mad People, the title of which is inspired by the book Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse, and more specifically the novel’s fictional setting of the magical theatre. As Wolf tells us: “It’s a magical place where the protagonist is pushed to explore all facets of his personality which then proves to be a deeply transformative experience.” Surely, now we’re given this time-out-of-time to discover ourselves in a way which is entirely unique and may not occur again during our lifetime. For those of us lucky enough to not succumb to the tragedy of coronavirus, we could indeed transport ourselves to the magical theatre through the lens of Wolf’s helmet camera and pensive songwriting.
